When Martin Richter was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013, his world changed. Tremors, a shuffling gait, and changes in his handwriting were early reminders of the challenges ahead. But Martin made a choice that continues to inspire others—he refused to let Parkinson’s define him.
Encouraged by his family and inspired by the story of someone fighting back through boxing, Martin joined the Rock Steady Boxing program at Neuro Challenge Foundation. What began as an exercise class became so much more. Through boxing, Martin found renewed strength, improved mobility, greater confidence, and a powerful sense of hope. Every punch thrown is a reminder that while Parkinson’s is relentless, so is the determination to keep moving forward.
Just as meaningful as the physical benefits are the friendships he’s found along the way.
“Participating in Parkinson’s programs and events builds friendships and community. The bonds you create are a real positive,” Martin says.
Today, Martin is giving back to the organization that has made such a difference in his life. Neuro Challenge Foundation provides Rock Steady Boxing, educational programs, support groups, wellness classes, and personalized Care Advising—all at no cost to people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. These life-changing programs are available in six Florida counties and virtually, ensuring that no one has to face Parkinson’s alone.
By making a gift in honor of Martin, you’ll help ensure that others can experience the same encouragement, strength, and community that have helped him continue living well with Parkinson’s. Your generosity provides more than a program, it gives someone hope, connection, and the confidence to keep fighting, one step and one punch at a time.
Right now, your gift can make an even greater impact. Thanks to a 1:1 match from The Louis & Gloria Flanzer Philanthropic Trust, your one-time or monthly donation may be doubled, helping Neuro Challenge Foundation provide life-changing support to the more than 3,500 people we serve each year.
You can also contact us to learn how to maximize your generosity through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA or by donating appreciated stock.
